Sculptures from the Arctic region are not only hunting- and familyscenes as we often see from the Nunavik region,
but wildlife, spirit figures, mythological and shamanic images are also abound. We offer you a large variety in artists, communities and subjects from Canada. Each carving is unique and authentic.
Many sculptures are made of local found stone:e.g. serpentine (olive green, yellow; 3 to 4.5 on the hardness scale), steatite (grey; hardness 1 to 3) and argillite (grey, black; hardness 2,5 to 4,5).
Other natural materials are also being used such as whalebone, antler, ivory and muskox horn. Some carvers combine different materials in one sculpture.
